Nauvoo has two main ways to serve as missionaries. Some of us are called as Visitor Center missionaries and some are called as Facility Missionaries, or FM missionaries. Visitor Center missionaries are the tour guides in the homes and trade buildings, in the actual visitor centers, one in Nauvoo and one in Carthage. There are also the teamsters. They take care of the horses and give wagon, carriage, and ox cart rides. Different narratives are told on each ride.
Most FM missionaries go to family wards on Sunday as support or outbound missionaries. They become part of the ward family and hold callings, visit members, and whatever else they are needed to do that they can do outside of their FM responsibilities.
Some FM missionaries also serve as site missionaries. That is where Dee and I have been asked to serve. So often on Sunday, after church, we go to a site and serve. Because there is a lull in grounds work during December and January, starting last Monday, the grounds crew have been asked to serve in sites during the week - with one or two days at FM. The mission is also low on site missionaries until Spring when a new group comes in and the young sister missionaries return from their outbound proselyting assignments. We will probably be assigned to a family ward in the spring, but for now we serve on sites when asked. This is one of the many reasons I love being an FM missionary. I get to do many different things.
