Valentine's Day in Nauvoo

Winter has a tight hold on Nauvoo this year with more snow and ice the first two weeks of February.  There were few visitors, as in none on most days, and it was tempting to feel bored and wonder what we were doing here.  But on Valentine's Day Heavenly Father gave us a gift of 50 degree sunny weather.  The Teamsters got out the surrey and made sure everyone got a ride, with photos.

Thursday night we had a Valentine's Party in the Family Living Center.  No pictures, but it was fun doing the Mississippi line dance - which one of the missionaries made up.

In Other News

More ice - We've learned why we needed ice cleates.

New snow - again

This was the excitement on Monday.  Moving of the baby oxen.
They were very hesitant because of the ice.
The Martyrdom line.
The temple was finished just up past the first round windows when Joseph and Hyrum were killed.  Brigham Young told them to build faster, so the blocks are cut bigger around the third set of windows.  The Saints barely finished the temple before they were forced to leave again.  But it was all as the Lord planned.  Utah gave them more room to gather and more freedom to create the society they wanted.
I've also been very busy with Sister Davies planning the RS Organization Re-enactment.  It is slowly coming together.

Our district's turn to clean the Stake Center.
Monday, back to the greenhouse for Sister Barrow. No more sitting in sites waiting for someone to come.  I'm glad we got to help out in sites.  I've learned a lot about the people who built and lived in these buildings, and it's been good to serve with the site missionaries and get to know them better. But the best of course was when visitors came and we could talk together about the site.

During one of the strong winds Elder Barrow had a cellar door slam on his leg.  He has recovered from his carpal tunnel syndrome only to be suffering from tendinitis in his leg as a result of the accident.  A lot of missionaries are finding out that we aren't as young as we use to be.

Teamsters Allred and Flanders with us.

  1. You didn't mention anything about dad's leg tonight! I'm sorry. Also, are the blocks on the rebuilt temple, the same dimensions are the original?

  2. See, people read your blog. I haven't liked commenting, because I haven't known if you replied, but now I see the little "notify me' check box and I will know if you respond to my comments.

  4. i think the blocks are the same, or else why would they be different?
Dad says his leg is getting better. I guess that's why I didn't mention it. He's still bending over in the attic. There is a lot more work to be done there.
