Every Monday morning at 8:00 the horses that pull the carriage and wagon rides are released from their weekend pasture on Main and Young Street, and head for the barn pasture for food and to get ready for the work week. I had been told that the running of the horses was exciting and something to not miss. So this Monday we worked not far from the horse pasture in the Women's Garden. Sister Archibald wanted to see the horses come up the hill to the barn, so about 7:45 we headed up to the barn. This is what we saw.

Horses leisurely walking up the path.

No running, just walking at a leisurely pace, stopping to eat grass as they moseyed along. I guess Monday morning doesn't excite them. Dee and I will go see them some Saturday afternoon when they head back to their weekend pasture. Maybe they will run.
The Women's Garden is just outside the Visitor's Center and is a beautiful garden with statues of women at various stages of life. It is one of my favorite places. But one of the annoying things about church gardens is that they are pulled before the flowers fade. I don't know why this happens at the Raleigh Temple, but in Nauvoo its is so they can be replanted with spring bulbs before the first freeze. It is back breaking work, but I like it because you know when you are finished - unlike weeding. There is always another weed to pull. At some point you just have to call it good.
This crew of sisters I work with are always kind and look out for each other. They have made me feel very welcome.
